Our Story

Our Story

Telling the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s story in a short video is no easy task. The last time we did a video about the Food Bank was in 2007. The video has been shown thousands of times to many different groups and has served us very well for many years. As we’ve grown, and our story has changed, we came to realize it was time for a new video. We’re so excited to share it with you now. Take a moment to watch it and share it with your friends on social media!

#FeedAtlanta

We recently teamed up with 11Alive to pull together a special program highlighting the issue of hunger in Atlanta and Georgia. During the broadcast, we took phone donations on air and people could also donate online. In just one hour, viewers donated $5,125--enough to provide 20,500 meals. 11Alive has posted the entire special on their website and we encourage everyone to watch it.

Legislative Update

Governor Nathan Deal came to the Food Bank a few weeks ago to sign HB 958 into law; it's a bill that will reinstate sales tax exemptions for food banks. This law will allow Georgia food banks to save $2.5 million in the next two years. Thank you to our advocacy champions who have helped us fight for this bill!

Recently, Governor Deal also signed a bill into law that would require food stamps recipients to be drug tested. Our executive director, Bill Bolling, shared his thoughts on the bill for our quarterly newsletter. Read his letter and our take on personal responsibility when it comes to these matters.
