A Summer To Remember

Youth Summit Garden

Youth Summit

The first Youth Summit of 2013 is wrapping up today, and it’s been quite the experience for the 18 Atlanta high school students who participated! They hit the ground running - volunteering at a community garden, mobile food pantry and in our Product Rescue Center, and learned so much about hunger and poverty in Georgia and our nation. Check out the Facebook photo album to see their week!

Grab a Great Summer Read

Acclaimed local author Susan Rebecca White is a big supporter of the ACFB. She’s just released her third novel, "A Place at the Table", and she's given us 10 copies to give away. Want one? It’s simple. Just read her blog post A Tale of Two “A Place at the Tables” and leave a comment. Find the contest details following Susan’s blog.

Georgia Legal Food Frenzy

Legal Food Frenzy

The second annual Legal Food Frenzy raised $141,015 and 19,299 pounds of food for the ACFB--enough for an additional 580,142 meals for struggling families, seniors and children across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. The results of the statewide competition were recently announced and 6 of the 10 award winners hail from our service area! See the full list of 2013 winners.

Perfect Purpose for Patio Dining

Picture you and your friends filling the seats for "Patio Perfect Dining" at not one, but TWO different restaurants! All locations of 5 Seasons Brewing on Tuesday June 11 and Six Feet Under Pub & Fish House on Tuesday June 18 will be hosting our monthly Supper Club. Enjoy delicious summertime fare while 20% of your tab goes to support the Food Bank.

Hunger Fact

$1.79

Every SNAP (food stamp) dollar received generates $1.79 in local economic activity. The Farm Bill is currently being debated and SNAP is in danger of severe cuts. Contact your congressperson and let them know food stamp cuts won't help our economy, but will hurt families facing hunger.

Hunger Study Underway

Feeding America's Hunger in America 2014 Study got into full swing in May. At the ACFB, we trained staff and 102 volunteers to conduct client surveys at pantries, kitchens and shelters. Read a first person account from a staff member who has volunteered at several sites. We are a quarter of the way through the study with 27 site visits logged with the the help of 27 volunteers contributing 109 hours. 154 Client Surveys have been completed with more to come! Learn more about the Study and our volunteer needs for the rest of this summer.
