Hunger Doesn't Take a Vacation

Summer Hunger

Summer is typically a time for fun in the sun and family vacations. But for millions of children who are on the federal free and reduced lunch program while in school, it can mean two fewer meals in a day. For parents, that’s a serious challenge to an already stretched budget. Help us make sure no child in metro Atlanta and north Georgia goes hungry this summer.

Map the Meal Gap

New county by county data released by Feeding America reveals that almost 2 million, or 1 in 5, Georgians are food insecure meaning that they do not consistently have access to enough nutritious food to live a healthy, productive lifestyle. That’s 20% of our neighbors, co-workers, congregants, family and friends who regularly face the uncertainty of knowing where their next meal will come from. Plant a Row for the Hungry

Calling all gardeners! Have you started harvesting from your vegetable garden yet? Consider donating the excess produce to a participating partner agency near you. Produce is always in high demand and your donations from your own garden ensure those with lack of access to healthy foods can get what they need. Find a site today!

Special Event Volunteer Orientation

Our special event volunteers have the chance to help at a wide spectrum of events benefiting ACFB--everything from greeting guests at prestigious social galas to collecting donations at a Major League Baseball game, or helping at our annual Hunger Walk/Run! All event volunteers must now attend a one-time orientation prior to their shift at an ACFB special event. Both current and new volunteers must attend. Orientations are scheduled for Saturday, July 27 from 10:00 - 11:30 AM OR Thursday, August 8, from 6:00 - 7:30 PM at the Atlanta Community Food Bank (choose one). To RSVP for either one of the orientations, please email us at voleventmanager@acfb.org.

King + Duke showcases locally sourced ingredients through simple, yet focused, hearth cooking. Join us on July 16th for Supper Club, and 20% of your tab will be donated to the Atlanta Community Food Bank!

Seasonal Cooking with Chef Chris Hall

Long-time supporter Chef Chris Hall of Local Three is back to teach another Simple Abundance class guaranteed to tantalize the tastebuds. Chef Hall will demonstrate how to prepare White Gazpacho with crab, toasted almonds and basil; Tybee Island Shrimp with Summer Squash Risotto, arugula and tomato jam; and a Summer Berry Trifle.
