Shutdown Not an Option for ACFB

What Does the Government Shutdown Mean for ACFB?

The Atlanta Community Food Bank is still open and distributing food to our partner agencies for those in need, but we are preparing for an increase in need that may come from the halt of funding for USDA programs such as WIC (Women, Infants, Children), CSFP (Commodity Supplemental Nutrition Program) and TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program). SNAP (Food Stamps) continues to be funded. Read more on our blog.

Jessica and Marvin

Face Of Food Stamps

Last month, the House of Representatives voted to cut $39 billion from SNAP (food stamps). These cuts, along with cuts that will be enacted on November 1, are incredibly damaging to those who are currently on the program. Think it’s only a certain type of person who needs this kind of help? Meet Marvin and Jessica. Their stories might change the way you think about people on food stamps.

Hunger Fact

Georgia has the 6th highest rate of food insecurity in the nation.

Hunger Study Wrap Up

We’re so excited to say that the data collection period for the Hunger in America 2014 Study is complete! ACFB staff and volunteers visited 102 partner agencies and conducted over 625 client surveys. We can’t wait to share the results in the spring. In the meantime, if you were a Hunger Study volunteer, we want to hear your stories. Email us at to find out how you can submit them.
