Food Stamps and Drug Testing

Georgia Rep. Greg Morris recently introduced legislation that would require drug testing before receiving SNAP/food stamp benefits. The reality is that bills of this type ultimately end up preventing our most vulnerable neighbors from accessing the help they need. Read more of our response on the ACFB blog.

Hunger Fact

1 in 10

More than one in every ten senior citizens in Georgia is living in poverty.

Farm Bill Passes

For three years, food banks have fought to protect hunger-relief programs as the U.S. House and Senate debated the Farm Bill. The new bill has finally passed. While it includes more than $8.5 billion in cuts to SNAP, that outcome is much better than the $40 billion originally proposed by the House. It also increases funding to TEFAP, the program that provides emergency food to food banks. Thank you to everyone who made calls, wrote letters and sent emails. Your voice has truly made a difference for millions of Americans who face hunger.
