Ellie's Fill the Bellies food & fund drive

After watching an episode of Sofia the First where Princess Sofia brings apples to children in the village, my three year old daughter Ellie asked me “Why did Sofia give away the apples, Mommy?” Then launched a discussion that Princess Sofia was helping to fill the bellies of children who didn’t have as much food. She asked, “Why do some children have hungry bellies?” Gut wrenching question and one that I couldn’t answer. I tried to explain that sometimes when children say their bellies are hungry their mommies and daddies can’t always fill them. The final question, “Can I fill bellies like Sofia did?” Yes, my sweet child, yes you can and so begins:

Ellie’s Fill the Bellies food drive supporting Atlanta Community Food Bank.

We are raising donations through the ACFB website and collecting food, house hold essentials, and physical donations at our house. If you would like to participate with a physical donation and do not have the address, please contact me personally. We will be delivering the food on the 23rd, so ask for all physical donations to be dropped off by December 22nd. Online donations will run through the end of the year. Please feel free to share this link and food drive with others.

During this trying year, with schools on break and end of the year looming, I am amazed at my three year old who has shown heart and understanding far beyond her little number of years spent on this earth. Angels hide in many places, but we usually see them in the faces of children. I hope you’ll join Ellie and me in trying to feed as many of those children, families, and communities as we can over the coming weeks.

Wishing you joy and blessing this holiday season and new year.

COVID-19 Response: Your Support is Urgently Needed

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic continues to impact those struggling with hunger. The Atlanta Community Food Bank is gathering every possible resource to provide food and supplies to all who need it, but we’re facing a sharp increase in demand.
More kids, parents, and seniors in our community are going hungry as a result of this ongoing crisis. Those who were already struggling face even greater challenges — not only to be fed, but to stay healthy. Nourishing food is the most basic need for our vulnerable neighbors. Your gift at this time is urgently needed and will help us:
• Purchase emergency food to support increased food distributions across our network
• Partner with schools to feed families who have lost access to school meals
• Provide food boxes to homebound, at-risk seniors who can't leave home to purchase groceries
• Deploy mobile food pantries to high-need areas of our community

Please give now to help those struggling with hunger — and let them know they’re not alone.

We don’t know what the future holds, but we know your kindness is needed right now. Thank you!
