Shalom Y'all
BEFORE SIMPLY PRESSING THE “DONATE NOW” BUTTON I ASK THAT YOU CONSIDER ADDING AN EXTRA DOLLAR OR TWO TO YOUR DONATION. AS YOU KNOW THIS YEAR IS MORE CRITICAL THAN EVER AND EVERY LITTLE BIT OF EXTRA ASSITANCE WILL GO EVEN THAT MUCH FURTHER.
Every year I choose an item to highlight my reasoning behind participating in the annual Hunger Walk.
This year’s theme is, unfortunately, WE NEED YOUR HELP.... THIS IS A COMMUNITY WIDE SOS.”
I really can’t go through my usual shpiel this year! Things are outright desperate. All one has to do is listen to the nightly terrible news…not only about infections, hospitalizations, and deaths but joblessness and food insecurity. Who hasn’t seen the lines at Food banks throughout the country on TV? It’s terribly disheartening.
While the Jewish Federation does “keep” funds to allocate to agencies who go through a grant process…to me that is secondary. We just have to help the whole community..NOW!
Historically the Food Bank’s main beneficiaries have been the elderly and the kids. Today it’s much more than that. I am not going to go overboard saying that it’s everybody nor that it’s your next-door neighbor. I will say the issue is significantly larger than we as a country rarely have experienced previously.
The Federation’s goal this year is a contribution of $ 100,000.00. This is a goal that I suggested. Many have thought this as unreachable. I believe that there is enough in our community that we can reach that goal and perhaps surpass it.
Since the WALK is virtual this year, I ask those who wish to participate to sign up early choose your route and wear your shirt. I have been told that yard signs will be available should you want one.
